The beautiful flower beds of Forbury Gardens

A Gazebo with a view

As any trader will tell you arriving at Forbury Gardens in Reading early in the morning is a beautiful experience. On entering the large gates one can follow a myriad of narrow footpaths past trees of various sizes, flower beds with a variety of different shapes, colours and smells and my favourite the freshly cut grass. You see the grassy smell always reminds me of freshly pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil from my village in Greece. Before arriving at our designated pitch we are always greeted by the large silent roar of the majestic Maiwand Lion statue in the centre of the gardens.

The evenings are warm here..!!

We are out of the van now, surprisingly only 5 minutes walk fom the city centre and unpacking to the early morning chirps of the birds in the trees. At this time there are not that many cars or people around. As the minutes pass, the Sun begins to rise. We can hear the level of peripheral noise slowly rising as buses, cars and people take themselves to work. In the park we are greeted by other traders arriving. Teas and coffees are being passed around made from a neighbouring traders gas water boiler. Oh it’s somebody’s birthday today so all of us early risers get a slice of cake too…Mmm ! You know it sometimes feels really good to be a market trader.
